Hebrews 5

“Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God ...” (1). Like every high priest, Hebrews explains, Jesus lived “among the people” and therefore “is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray” (2). Although He was the divine Son, he was tempted, suffered, and “learned obedience” in our place. Because He chose to share our messy, broken humanity, we get to share in His victory over sin and death.

Jesus truly understands us, and He is “the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him” (9). He has the power to break sin’s grip and lead us into the kingdom of His Father.
