I Kings 11-13

“And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD … who had appeared to him twice” (11:9).  King Solomon’s insatiable greed for women reflected a heart that was not satisfied with God, and his relationships then further separated him from the Lord.  No longer humbly seeking God’s help, Solomon began to crave other things – even idolatry (v7-8).  As a result, God allowed Israel to disintegrate (ch 12-13).  Ten tribes split off and followed Jeroboam, while Solomon’s son Rehoboam ruled one tribe.

“His heart was not wholly true to the Lord” (11:4). If we want to obey God, we must guard the affections of our hearts (Prov 4:23).
