Deuteronomy 32
/“He found him in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; he encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye” (v10). Moses reminded the people that God had made them mighty and successful; their prosperity was not their own. Israel was the Lord’s “portion,” his “inheritance,” (v9), and therefore God nurtured and guided them like a mother eagle (v11). But when they were grown and strong, they forgot “the God who gave you birth” (v18).
Israel accepted God’s good gifts and ignored the Giver, leading to terrible loss. God saves us so that we can be in fellowship with Him, “our very life” (32:47).
