Psalm 48
/“Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion … the city of the great King. Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress” (v1-3). God’s glory is present in his entire universe, but he dwells in a special way in the city, where men and women live. Israel’s temple was in Jerusalem, and God revealed himself there; our destiny is also God’s own renewed city (Rev 22). God reveals his character – fortress, deliverer, provider – in the everyday struggles of his people, as we live as his witnesses in our cities.
