Daniel 1-3
/“Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king's command …” (3:28). The young Jewish men captured and trained for royal service in Babylon decided to stay loyal to the One God. They refused the king’s food (ch 1), proclaiming their unique identity, and they relied on God’s power to save them (2:28). They risked death rather than bowing to a false god (3:28).
“Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us” (3:17). Our society bows to the false gods of wealth, sex, and power. Rooted in our identity as God’s people, as we resist idolatry, He delivers us.
