Proverbs 28

“Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways” (v6).  The ancient world, just like our own society, glorified the idol of wealth and assumed that rich people were to be admired and imitated.  But the proverbs warn us that the pursuit of financial security, in itself, can lead to arrogance and spiritual blindness (v11), even a tolerance for “crooked ways” (v18).  “A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished” (v20).

“Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered” (v18).  When our integrity – moral uprightness – leads the way, our work glorifies God and blesses others.
