I Corinthians 11

“For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you” (v18).  Paul addressed behaviors that were distracting and dividing the believers in Corinth.  Because devout Jewish women covered their heads during this era, Paul taught that this practice was more respectful in a mixed gathering (men and women, Jews and Gentiles) (v4-10).  Further, rich and poor should be united, not divided, by holy communion (v21); it wasn’t a time to feast, but to remember Jesus Christ (v24).

Gathering together in Jesus’ name is not the time to flaunt our preferences; our goal is to be unified, despite our differences, as we worship our Savior together.
