Isaiah 28-29

“Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion … a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: 'Whoever believes will not be in haste.'” (28:16).  People in Isaiah’s time tried to protect themselves against death and destruction, but they were unwilling to trust God.  They said, “We have made a covenant with death” (v15), as if they could control the future.  Isaiah declared that only by trusting in the “precious cornerstone” of God’s salvation would they be “not in haste,” but instead at rest and safe.

God offers salvation and calls out to us, “This is rest” (28:12).  Our efforts to save ourselves are exhausting and pointless.  Christ gives us rest for our souls.
