Jeremiah 3-4

“Return, O faithless children … and I will bring you to Zion” (3:14).  Jeremiah saw terrible visions of war - “the whole land is laid waste” (4:20) - because Judah, like northern Israel, had rejected God and depended on the false protection of idols.  Like an unfaithful bride (3:6-7,20), they had broken the covenant and were vulnerable to the destructive forces of pagan empires.  God called to them to repent before it was too late.

“Truly the hills are a delusion” (3:23).  God is our refuge; all other “help” is a delusion.  In mercy, He calls to His people: “Return … I will heal your faithlessness” (3:22).
