Judges 5

“The mountains quaked before the Lord” (v5). Deborah’s song celebrated victory over Israel’s enemies.  The people had been living in fear, afraid to venture far from home, (v6,7), but now free from the lawlessness, violence and tyranny of the Canaanites, they could sing.  The song memorializes the work of God and those tribes who fought well, but there is no honor for those who “stay with the ships and sit at the coasts” (v17).

God invites us to join Him in advancing His kingdom of love and justice, so that we can join in the victory song and enjoy peace.  God understands our fear but calls us to trust him to lead us victoriously into battle.
