Judges 6
/“The Lord is with you” (v12). After Deborah, the people are back at the mercy of their overlords - living in fear, hiding in “dens and caves” (v2). The angel of the Lord finds a hesitant Gideon to be his “man of valor” (v12). Gideon needs multiple assurances from God: a received sacrifice (v21) and confirmation signs of a fleece (v38, 40). Far from being full of “valor,” he even takes his first step of action at night because of fear (v27).
Though Gideon’s faith was weak and slow to action, God took the smallest sign of trust and helped it grow. If we trust God even a little, he helps us to trust him more.
