Genesis 43

“Now the famine was severe in the land” (v1). Judah and his brothers were reduced to complete helplessness by the famine.  Their father’s wealth couldn’t protect them anymore; they were close to starving, and so returning to Egypt was their only hope.  Judah knew that it was a risk, and if his younger brother Benjamin died, Judah would “bear the blame forever,” just as he and his brothers secretly bore guilt for the loss of Joseph (v9).  But God wanted their lives, not their deaths.
“That we may live and not die…” (v8).  In God’s mercy, He uses our worst hardships to humble us and bring us to Himself, for the sake of our salvation.  #NCManna
