Genesis 44

“What shall we speak? Or how shall we clear ourselves?  God has found out the guilt of your servants …” (v16).  When Joseph’s silver cup appeared in Benjamin’s sack, apparently stolen, Judah threw himself on the great man’s mercy.  Judah realized that this terrible “mix up” – Benjamin accused of a crime – was somehow related to his own guilt before God, and he was without excuse.  He could only appeal to Joseph’s compassion for their old father, Jacob, who would surely die of grief if he lost another beloved son (v22, 34).
Accepting guilt, acknowledging his father’s pain, asking for mercy: Judah’s repentance was real.  When we stop justifying our actions, we are free to accept God’s grace. #NCManna
