Exodus 6
/“They did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery” (v9). Through Moses, God announced a wonderful future for the Israelites: freedom from slavery, life in the Promised Land, and fellowship with God Himself (v7). But they couldn’t hear these uplifting words, because they were beaten down by years of harsh conditions and humiliation. Nonetheless, God promised to reveal Himself as “the Lord” through mighty acts of salvation and power on their behalf (v6).
“I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel” (v5). God is compassionate with those who are weary and beaten down; He understands our weaknesses and shares our burdens.
