11 Samuel 5-6

“So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing” (v12).  After the death of Saul’s son Ish-bosheth, all the tribes of Israel united under David’s leadership (ch 5).  He quickly conquered Jerusalem and moved there. However, since Israel only existed by God’s mercy, David’s rule was not complete without the ark, symbol of God’s covenant with Israel. As they brought the ark, David led the nation in dancing and celebrating before their true King (v13-23).

“I will make merry before the Lord …” (v21). The great King David humbled himself publicly so that the eternal King, the Lord, could receive honor and glory.
