Acts 13:1-12
/“So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus” (v4). Acts tells us that the Holy Spirit directed the life and expansion of the early church. Rather than having one human spokesperson, the Holy Spirit often spoke to and through several who were following Jesus and were gifted for leadership (v1). In this case, the “teachers and prophets” together heard the Spirit’s command to send out Barnabas and Saul as missionaries (v2).
“Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off” (v3). God has placed us in the Body of Christ so that, together, we can discern and do God’s will.
