I Kings 16
/“Ahab did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him” (v33). King Ahab of northern Israel and his infamous wife Jezebel went further than anyone in their rebellion against God. Ahab’s feud with God’s prophet, Elijah, is well-known, but before that, Ahab had demonstrated his principles. Under his rule, Jericho was rebuilt on top of the ritual sacrifices of two children, Abiram and Segub (v34).
“And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord” (v30). To get what he desired, Ahab rejected the law of God and embraced violence and power. Nothing that we want is worth the terrible price of sin.
