Ezekiel 5-9

“So I went in and saw. And there, engraved on the wall all around, was every form of creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel” (8:10). God showed Ezekiel a vision of Jerusalem, where Israelites were mixing worship of God with idolatry. In the Temple, Israel’s leaders bowed before carved images of animals. At Jerusalem’s gates, women were “weeping for Tammuz” (another idol, 8:14), while men worshipped the sun. Ezekiel saw why God was bringing judgment.

“None of them shall remain; nor their abundance, nor their wealth” (7:11). Because of their idolatry, Judah lost their land and their wealth. God didn’t want religious ritual, but instead sincere love and obedience, from the heart.
