Ezekiel 10-13

“Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!” (13:3). Along with elders and princes, God showed Ezekiel the failure of the prophets to be true to God’s Word and His ways. When Judah fell into idolatry, the prophets simply told people what they wanted to hear, speaking “from their own hearts (13:2) and “out of their own minds” (13:17) instead of speaking for God. They didn’t challenge the immorality and injustice that filled the land, but instead used their role for personal profit (v19).

Religion as political and personal power ended up destroying Judah. Out of the ashes, God promised to give them something different: “A new spirit I will put within them” (11:19).
