Psalm 4

“Who will show us some good?” (v6).  The psalmist was tempted, like all of us, to look for security in the “vain lies” of the world (v2).  Yet he was convinced that our real security is found in trusting the Lord, who hears us when we call (v1,3).  A right relationship with God gives us the peace and confidence we will never find in the world’s treasures.  “You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound” (v7).

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep …” (v8).  Our own efforts to create security will never be enough, but when we entrust our lives to our good Creator, we can sleep.
