Matthew 6

“And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (v4).  Even before Facebook, believers felt the pressure of impressing others.  But Jesus warned them that their giving, praying, and fasting – their devotion to the Lord – should be done primarily “in secret,” as a gift of worship to the God who sees us when we are alone.  While it is important to gather as the body of Christ for worship and teaching, our most sacrificial moments should not be offered “in order to be seen” and approved by others (v1).

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (v21).  Investing in a relationship with Jesus, beyond the gaze of others, produces eternal treasure.
