Matthew 9:9-38

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction” (v35).  Jesus proclaimed the good news that God was present, and His kingdom was not like the world’s.  By healing and touching those who were outcasts, Jesus showed that God valued individuals who were discarded by the world.  Jesus rebuked the pride of religious leaders who refused to see their own need of salvation (v13).

“For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners” (v13).  God doesn’t evaluate us based on our success, reputation, or goodness.  He is looking for humble people who recognize we need Him.
