Matthew 10

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (v39).  Jesus sent out his twelve disciples without money, weapons, or possessions – their only power was God’s Spirit.  Their task was to proclaim God’s kingdom: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay” (v8). As they identified with Jesus the King who gave up everything, they would also face rejection and persecution by the world (v14,17 22).

“Fear not, therefore” (v31).  As we live by the values of Jesus’ kingdom, He will take care of us.  Whatever we lose for His sake is nothing compared to the life we discover in Him.
