Psalm 63

“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water” (v1).  The psalmist had discovered that only God could quench his soul’s desperate thirst.  Nothing else could satisfy him: not the favor of the people or his privileges as a leader, not his band of loyal warriors or his victories.  Instead of pursuing these things, the psalmist said, “my soul clings to You” (v8).

“Your steadfast love is better than life” (v3).  Accomplishing our goals in life can still leave us empty and spiritually lifeless.  Only the steadfast love of God poured out in Jesus truly satisfies.
