Acts 13
/“Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation” (v26). The Jewish religious leaders at first allowed Paul and Barnabas to speak about Jesus in the synagogue (v14-15), but when “many Jews and devout converts to Judaism” showed interest (v43), the leaders turned against the apostles. They rejected the challenge and disruption of a gospel that called for personal repentance (v38) and included the Gentiles (v47).
As Paul preached, Jesus has power to free us “from everything” (v39) - both the Law and our own sin. But He calls us to lay down our comfort, our traditions, our pride, and follow Him.
