I Kings 1-2
/“Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the LORD your God, walking in his ways …” (2:1-2). Through his successes and tremendous failures, King David had learned the importance of keeping the Lord’s commands and depending on Him. He reminded Solomon that Israel was unique; their entire existence, land, and future depended on their covenant with God. David charged Solomon not to be a king like other kings, but to obey the Lord, “that you may prosper in all that you do” (2:3).
David had learned that those who follow the Lord “with all their heart and all their soul” (2:4), whether king or common person, find the joy and peace every human heart craves.
