II Kings 1
/“Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?” (v3,16). Israel/Judah was called as a nation to witness to the reality of God, so that other nations would know Him. When Israel’s injured king, Ahaziah, consulted an idol about his future instead of the God of Abraham, he was declaring his lack of belief to the world. Elijah prophesied that the consequence would be Ahaziah’s death.
“Thus says the Lord” (v4). “Having faith” is more than the right words. It means that we base our hope, our choices, and our future on the fact that Jesus has revealed God’s heart and our lives belong to Him.
