I Kings 19-22

“For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left …” (19:10).  Despite Elijah’s great victory on Mount Carmel, “he was afraid” (19:3) and ran away when threatened by Queen Jezebel. Elijah had to be reminded that he was not the only faithful person left; the Lord had “7000” who had not bowed to Baal (19:18).  One of those was the prophet Micaiah, who defied Ahab and only spoke God’s truth (22:14).

“I saw the Lord sitting on his throne” (22:19). We can live in peace, despite the world’s chaos, because Jesus is King. His sacrificial, death-defeating love makes us secure.
