Romans 8:1-7

“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God … fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him” (v16-17).  The Holy Spirit works in our hearts so that we can cooperate with the Father’s love (v15).  On our own, we can’t fight our wrong desires (v7), but with the Spirit’s help, we put to death our sinful behaviors (v13).  By daily turning away from sin, we share Christ’s own suffering on our behalf (v17).

“The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace” (v6).  Instead of struggling alone against fear, anger, pride, lust, or self-centeredness, the Spirit in us enables us to overcome.
