Genesis 46-48

And Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face; and behold, God has let me see your offspring also” (48:11).  Jacob (Israel) lived many years thinking his beloved son Joseph was dead.  He had also buried his wife Rachel.  Though his family and wealth had multiplied in Canaan, he had experienced suffering and loss. He told Pharaoh, “Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life” (47:9).  Now, however, God had unexpectedly given him the gift not just of Joseph, but of seeing his grandchildren.

Jacob trusted that “the God who had been my shepherd all my life” (48:15), the God who keeps His promises, would also bless and keep the next generation.
