Genesis 49-50

“I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob” (50:24).  Joseph had only lived as a youth in Canaan; his entire adult life had been in Egypt.  He looked so Egyptian that his brothers didn’t recognize him at first.  However, Joseph never forgot his identity; he belonged to Abraham’s family, and he wanted his bones to be carried to the Promised Land when the time came.

“God meant it for good” (50:20).  Rather than becoming bitter, Joseph saw God’s hand in his own captivity and trusted that one day God would lead His people back home.
