Psalm 28

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped” (v7). David, though he was a warrior-king, did not hesitate to cast himself on the Lord and plead for help.  He recognized that the downfall of the wicked was their pride; they did not “regard” the works of the Lord (v5) but trusted in themselves and were destroyed.  The psalmist leaned on the Lord as his “saving refuge,” both for himself individually and for Israel collectively.  “The Lord is the strength of his people” (v8).

“Be their shepherd and carry them forever” (v9). There is no greater blessing than to know we are carried by the Shepherd, now and forever.
