Numbers 17-18

“You shall have no inheritance in their land … I am your portion and your inheritance among the people of Israel” (18:20).  After the rebellion against the priesthood was punished, Aaron’s rod sprouted with blossoms and almonds to symbolize God’s blessing on Aaron’s leadership (and his descendants).  They were provided for through temple offerings, but they did not receive land like other tribes. While all Israel belonged to God, the priests lived out whole-life dedication to God through their unusual daily lives. 

“I am your portion and your inheritance” (v20). Through Jesus, we have become “a kingdom of priests,” wholly belonging to God.  In Him we find our source, our provision, and our inheritance.
