Deuteronomy 1-2

“Yet in spite of this word you did not believe the LORD your God …” (1:32). At the edge of the Promised Land, Moses reviewed the Israelites’ journey and grieved that they had not trusted the Lord more.  Even though God had miraculously rescued them from Egypt and provided for them in the wilderness, they didn’t trust Him to conquer the fierce Canaanites and give them the land (1:27,28). God personally led them by a cloud in the day and fire at night (v33), yet they doubted.

God has already demonstrated His power to deliver and His faithful love for us.  He carries us “as a man carries his son” (v31), and His desire is that we trust Him.
