Deuteronomy 3-4

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen …” (4:9). Moses warned the Israelites not to forget the extraordinary things that God had done for them.  Never in human history had God come so close to a people, let them hear His voice, and personally covenanted with them (4:32-39).  Moses warned them not to take this for granted, not to forget the Lord, lest they be destroyed (v23).

The Israelites were called to remember the source of their special identity. In Christ, God has made both Jew and Gentile “a people of his own inheritance” (4:20), and He calls us to live out that identity by walking in His ways.
