Psalm 35

“Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me!” (v1). The psalmist unashamedly cried out for God to defend him and help him prevail over his betrayers (v12-17).  However, his prayer wasn’t based on his own goodness, but rather he trusted in the goodness of God.  He asked God to “Vindicate me … according to your righteousness” (v24).  Trusting in God’s righteousness means that we pray for help and victory on His terms, in His way, not our own.

“Great is the Lord, who delights in the welfare of his servant!” (v27).  God delights in our well-being and will help us “according to His righteousness,” not our own.
