John 3

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (v17).  John explained what he meant by this famous passage.  The purpose of Jesus’ coming wasn’t to condemn the world (v18), but rather to save all those who would believe in Him; according to John, “believing” includes loving light rather than darkness and being willing to live in the light (v18-21).  Belief isn’t simply right thinking, but instead giving our whole selves to Jesus.

“You must be born again” (v7).  As we say Yes to the grace of Jesus and to the ongoing work of the Spirit, God makes us new men and women.
