II Chronicles 23-24
/“Now after the death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them” (24:17). As long as the godly priest Jehoiada was alive, King Joash (who had been rescued by the priest and crowned king at 7 years old) served the Lord. But when Jehoiada died, Joash listened to the flattering voices of Judah’s princes, who convinced him to rebuild the allow the idols (24:18). Zechariah, the old priest’s son, rebuked the king and was murdered (24:21).
“They would not pay attention” (24:19). God calls us to listen to wise voices. He speaks through His Word, His Spirit, and godly leaders to help us grow in understanding and righteousness (Eph 4).
