II Chronicles 25
/“But go, act, be strong for the battle … For God has power to help or to cast down” (25:8). The prophet rebuked King Amaziah, who followed God “yet not with a whole heart” (v1). Wanting to honor the Lord, Amaziah still gave in to the temptation to seek help from ungodly sources. First, he hired mercenaries to fight alongside Judah (v6), and then he sought the “help” of the foreign gods of Seir (v14). Amaziah struggled to believe the God of Abraham was sufficient.
“Be strong for the battle” (v8). We can’t fight spiritual battles with worldly weapons. Jesus calls us to find our strength in Him and “the gospel of peace” (Eph 6).
