Psalm 127

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (v1). While work is a blessing from God, His desire is not that we should exhaust ourselves, “eating the bread of anxious toil” (v2). When we strive alone, separated from God, as if everything is in our hands, we work “in vain” and our efforts lead to despair and disillusionment. But the Lord invites us to be joyful co-workers under His leadership. Just as bearing children is a partnership with Him (v3-5), He wants us to acknowledge Him in all our work.

“He gives to His beloved sleep” (v2). Working under the Lord’s leadership means we can sleep at night, knowing He is in charge.
