Revelation 3
/“For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked” (v17). While other churches were dealing with persecution or false prophets, the prosperous Laodicean church had lost its sense of humility. Their wealth and stability had produced shallow, “lukewarm” faith (v15,16), and Jesus warned them to repent (v19). They were only “fine” in the world’s eyes, perhaps having property or not being under threat; however, from God’s perspective, they were “pitiable, poor, blind, and naked” (v17).
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock” (v20). What the Lord offers us – real fellowship with Him - is so much better than the riches of the world.
