Nahum 1-3
/“Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger?” (1:6). Nahum warned mighty Nineveh, capital of Assyria’s empire, that the Lord was about to judge them. “Woe to the bloody city, all full of lies and plunder” (3:1). Those who were supposed to lead had abdicated responsibility: “Your shepherds are asleep, O king of Assyria; your nobles slumber” (3:18). But God still offered the good news of peace to anyone who would listen (1:15).
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him” (1:7). God calls us to turn out backs on self-destructive, prideful behaviors and take refuge in His good news of peace.
