Psalm 149
/“Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!” (2). Israel worshipped their “Maker,” the One who created everything in the universe. Yet they also celebrated their special, covenant relationship with God their King. God had revealed Himself as Savior to the Israelites, and they rejoiced that He was not distant or unknown; “the Lord takes pleasure in His people (4). And His close relationship with “the children of Zion” was a foretaste of what He wanted for all peoples.
“Let the godly exult in glory!” (5). Although we are deserving of judgment (7- 9), God invites us by faith to become “the godly” who stand before Him in worship.
