Proverbs 19

“What is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar” (v22).  Most people pursue outward signs of success (wealth, power, physical appearance), but the proverbs teach us to value the deeper character traits of a godly life. “Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool” (v1).  Cultivating self-control, honesty, humility, and kindness may not lead to quick riches, but these virtues lead to our well-being: “whoever gets sense loves his own soul” (v8).

“Whoever keeps the commandment keeps his life” (v16). We were created in God’s image, and when we pursue His ways and His heart, we find abundant life.
