Proverbs 20
/“The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing” (v4). The Scriptures warn us not to ignore the cause-and-effect principles that God has built into the universe. The temptation to take questionable short cuts to get what we want usually leads to disaster, disappointment, or even sin. “An inheritance gained hastily in the beginning will not be blessed in the end” (v21). When we commit ourselves to God’s ways in every stage of our work, we bring honor to God, no matter the outcome.
“Steadfast love and faithfulness preserve the king” (v28). Work and wealth easily become idols in our society, but “steadfast love and faithfulness” keep us focused on the Lord.
