Job 27-28

“Man puts his hand to the flinty rock and overturns mountains by the roots …his eye sees every precious thing” (28:9-10). Even thousands of years ago, humanity’s ability to carve open the earth to find minerals and jewels was impressive.  Yet Job recognized that human intelligence and skill was worthless in the face of deep questioning, suffering, and spiritual need. “But where shall wisdom be found?” (28:12). “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding” (28:28).

“God understands the way to it” (28:23).  We don’t have to face life’s hardest questions alone.  Jesus, the “wisdom of God” (I Cor 1:24), came to share our suffering and bring us peace.
