Job 37

“Hear this, O Job; stop and consider the wondrous works of God” (v14). Of all Job’s friends or accusers, young Elihu came closest to speaking wisdom. He did not understand the preface to Job’s situation (ch1), but Elihu did point Job to the awesomeness of God’s power in creation as reason to trust Him. “God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend. For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour” (v5-6).

“Whether for correction or for his land or for love, he causes it to happen” (v13). Even when our troubles defy simple answers, we can trust that God’s ultimate purposes for us are good.
