Psalm 97

“The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!” (v1). In a world of moral confusion, the psalmist joined all creation in praising God because “righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne” (v1). We rejoice that we aren’t at the mercy of “worthless idols” (v7); we trust the judgments of our good and loving Creator (v8). Instead of chasing after the gods of wealth, sexuality, and self-pride, we are called to love the Lord and trust that His ways bring life (v10).

“Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart” (v11). As we rest in God’s loving authority over us and the earth, we experience real joy and peace.
