Psalm 94

“Rise up, O judge of the earth” (v2).  The psalmist called out to the Creator to confront the injustice he saw around him.  Powerful people crushed “the widow, the sojourner … the fatherless” (v6), and no one seemed to hold them accountable.  Evil flourished at both the personal level and the systemic level, and the psalmist lamented “those who frame injustice by statute” (v20). Yet the psalmist saw that God was not absent; His “steadfast love” was at work for good (v18).

“When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul” (v19). Because Jesus came to earth and broke the power of evil, we can trust Him with all our own cares and with our world.
