Psalm 99

“The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob” (v4). The peoples “tremble” and the earth “quakes” because the holiness of God exposes the shortcomings of human societies (v1). God loves justice, equity, and righteousness, and we desire those things but can’t achieve them because of human sinfulness. Yet instead of rejecting us, God reached out to Moses, Aaron, Samuel and others (v6). “They called to the Lord, and He answered them” (v6); He forgave them and addressed their sins (v8).

“Holy is He!” (v5). God’s goodness makes us aware of our sins, yet He doesn’t turn away. In love, He reaches out and invites us into relationship with Him.
